If you’ve used Message Formats before, you’ve no doubt played around with the builder window, where you can easily drag and drop context-sensitive fields to make awesome custom emails for your clients. 

 

Now, we’ve brought that functionality across to SMS, adding a new tab for it in Message Formats. Build dynamic SMS messages that keep your customers updated during every aspect of their delivery.

 

While delivering custom SMS messages was our focal point for this update, you can also look forward to new keyboard shortcuts for On-Demand Shipments, UI improvements, bug fixes, and more. Let’s dive in.

💬 Messages, Your Way 💬

At your request, we’ve added the ability to send custom SMS messages to your customers through Message Formats. This is a fantastic way to give your customers updates during their delivery, with variable fields like [ETA], [DriverName], [POD] and [TrackingID]. You won’t need to make a new Message Format from scratch to take advantage of it, either, as you’ll be able to use the added SMS Text tab on any of your existing Message Format records.


The drag-and-drop interface is fast, easy and frankly, kind of fun, and we look forward to seeing what sorts of messages you’re able to create with it. Be mindful that every 161 characters is a new SMS message segment and SMS charge, so bear that in mind as you’re building, especially if you plan to send the message to dozens or hundreds of customers. The preview display will let you see what your message will look like from your customer’s perspective and includes a handy character counter to help you stay within your intended length. For the best experience, we recommend a quick read of the documentation linked above.


Find the SMS Text tab via the Operations App > Maintenance > Message Formats > New or Existing Record > SMS Text tab.

Command your On-Demand Shipment forms like a wizard with these classic shortcuts. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to blaze through shipment creation and edit orders at light speed.

 

To see the full reference list is easy. Open any existing On-Demand Shipment form, click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and scroll down until you see Keyboard Shortcuts. Click on the little thumbtack icon to pin it to your top toolbar. Easy!

What's New 📰

  • Custom SMS Messages via the Message Formats module, accessed via Operations App > Maintenance > Message Formats > Record > SMS Text Tab.
  • Classic keyboard shortcuts brought across to the On-Demand Shipment form, accessible via Operations App > Shipments > On-Demand Shipments > Select any existing shipment > Three-dot menu in the top right > Keyboard Shortcuts > Pin
  • Added a capability to allow a Visual Dispatch Board user to perform the Remove Driver action on multiple On-Demand shipments at once and simultaneously send alerts about it to those drivers within their CXT Driver app
  • Added a more granular Edit user permission for Geofences, Mobile Option Sets, and Stop Types, so customers can control what users can edit those types of records. All existing users with an enabled parent permission will have the matching Edit permission enabled upon upgrade to 25.3 ensure there are no functionality changes for current users

What's Improved 📈​

  • Improved the behavior of the Primary Customer field on the Shipment Order Form
  • Improved the UI for the default record when doing Client Portal customization to make it more clear it can’t be edited.
  • Improved the error message when users without the right Find permissions cannot see a report on the dashboard’s widgets
  • Improved the Visual Dispatch Board column sorting logic for date and time data values
  • Improved the display of shipment ETAs on the Visual Dispatch Board in both pop-ups and the Status tab, once they are calculated
  • Improved loading times on Operations > Maintenance > Users.
  • Improved usability and updated the terminology within the dashboard’s Quick Links widget
  • Improved the On-Demand Shipments form UI to still show tooltips on inactive menu items, to make them easier to learn
  • Improved the behavior of the preview display button under Maintenance > Message Formats > Record
  • Improved performance on the Inherit Permissions From field within Maintenance > Users
  • Improved error messages on the Shipments Form and on the Visual Dispatch Board, when a shipment exceeds a driver’s vehicle’s max dim weight
  • Improvement made to the Driver Sequence modal within the Visual Dispatch Board so it can now be minimized and restored
  • Improved the warning messages within the Client Portal for Schedule Later On-Demand Shipments to more user-friendly
  • Enforced password complexity restrictions for Client Portal password change requests
  • Visual improvements made to the Remove Driver and Send Cancel Message pop-ups on the Visual Dispatch Board
  • Visual improvement now shows attachments on the On-Demand Shipments form in a full size popup
  • Added the ability to view more data for On-Demand canceled shipments.
  • Added a header to the Add To Batch popup on the Visual Dispatch Board and ensured adding shipments to a batch updates the table properly during syncs

What's Fixed

  • Fixed an issue with rounding for distance calculation on the Shipment Order Form
  • Fixed an issue where the Client Portal’s Pay Invoice action menu option was showing even when credit cards were not enabled
  • Fixed a rare issue where load stops were not cloning properly
  • Fixed an issue where PDF files saved to Customer records could not be opened
  • Fixed an issue where the Get Directions tool might have trouble with addresses that contain a Line 2 specifying a unit.
  • Fixed an issue where an inactivity warning was being displayed when creating a new Route Stamp Stop.
