22.5: Powerful Operations Tools 🏋️‍♂️

22.5 release notes featured image

Having the power and flexibility to adapt to different scenarios is key to an operator’s productivity. 📈

We engineer countless tools to help address the expected and unexpected developments that can arise during a day in the life at your business. In our latest release, we’re excited to incorporate features to help couriers take charge of important tracking and settlement issues.

Controlling Surcharge Handling for Route Stops

Floating fuel expenditures puts tremendous pressure on a business’s operating capital. Controlling expenses through fuel surcharges is critical to keeping costs stable and maintaining quality service levels. ⛽

To help facilitate better cost control for routed work, a new global option and route form field called “Driver Surcharge Based On” is now available. This routed option allows operators greater flexibility for driver pay settings as they relate to surcharges.

“With the drastic increase of national fuel prices, we added an improvement so routed couriers can more easily pass along the increased customer fuel surcharge rates to their drivers. By helping offset the increased cost of doing business as a driver, routed couriers can have a better chance of keeping their driver fleet fairly compensated and reduce turnover during this economically challenging time.”

Surcharge percentages can vary by customer, contract, driver pay, and many factors; however, route pay for drivers was solely based off of a set route pay previously. This addition allows operators to easily navigate to have surcharges calculated based on the customer’s surcharge amount or to remain based on driver route pay.

Enforcing Task Completion on the Spot

Pickup confirmation and proof of delivery are commonplace in today’s delivery environment with the help of photos, signatures, and parcel barcode scans. 📝 That isn’t always enough.

Location-based settings can be put in place to require drivers to complete specified tasks before moving on with their itinerary. The location enforcement can help ensure that shipments are picked up and delivered to the right place at the right time – and documented as such. 📍

A feature currently available for route stops, this release adds permission-based Force Location Scan functionality for on-demand shipments. With this feature enabled, the driver is required to scan an address location or address lookup barcode before moving on with their workflow.

That means you and your clients don’t have to worry about where your packages are being delivered, or marked as delivered even though a driver is running late and trying to appear on schedule.

Streamlining Customer Payment Policies

Procedural consistency ensures all your shipments are input, billed, and fulfilled to your company standards. When order entry comes in multiple methods, that consistency, however, can hit some bumps in the road.

While our Client Portal provides a convenient online option for order entry directly from the customer, many on-demand orders are placed over the phone with customer service teams across businesses large and small.

How can you make sure order billing is completed when CSRs directly input those shipment orders into the Operations App? Easy. A new credit card option in the customer record allows operators the ability to enforce credit card requirements when customers are placing on-demand orders over the phone.

The feature allows you to specify the payment method for each customer record. You can:

  • “Never accept credit cards” disabling all credit card options for the customer
  • “Accept credit cards” allowing your CSR to place the order with the customer credit card or place the order to be invoiced
  • “Only accept credit cards” requiring the CSR to always process a credit card for all incoming on-demand orders from the customer

This order entry option will help you establish proper payment policies with ease.

Release Updates

What's New 📰

  • Updated the Client Portal’s “What’s New” pop-up modal to display the new parcel tracking page.
  • Added logic to prevent any changes to locked order rates when Client Portal users are editing orders without having the permission to view rates online.

What's Improved 📈

  • Improved CPU & duration performance of the Driver App’s syncing process.
  • Updated driver pay calculation displays within the Driver App to include associated surcharges.
  • Improvement made for invalid return address emails, so they now get moved to the historic mail outbox within the database.
  • Removed database size checks from the application startup process and banner information display.

What's Fixed 🛠

  • Fixed an issue with elevated permissions not resetting in the modern Operations App.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Create New Route Stop” permission in the Mobile Option Set was not recognizing individual drivers’ mobile settings.
  • Fixed an issue where canceled orders were being displayed within the “Future Orders” section of the “Order History” for on-demand orders.
  • Fixed an issue with recording changes to a customer’s surcharge rate chart in the audit trail.
  • Fixed an issue with importing routes to future days and then changing the post date to today that would cause the parcels to not chain to today’s route.
  • Fixed an issue with “Find” clearing fields when switching between basic and advanced finds.
  • Fixed an intermittent issue where assigned fleets would not be persisted when creating a continuation order.
  • Fixed an issue with the clear button not resetting the form in “Find Subscriptions.”
  • Fixed intermittent error that could occur when performing select actions on a route manifest.

Works in Progress 🏭

  • Unexpected error is being thrown when emailing drivers a settlement from a multi-driver settlement with the incorrect fleet.
Workaround: Only enter in Driver IDs that are included within the enabled fleets. The error is displayed when a Driver ID is manually entered that isn’t within the user’s enabled fleets.
  • Entering an address in the Client Portal that does not validate causes old lat/lon values from previously validated addresses to be used for distance calculation and could cause incorrect distances to be placed on orders.
  • Subscription-based reports fail to export and generate an email when certain field types like TimeStamp are included.
Workaround: Do not include the TimeStamp field, as it is not supported.
  • Lat/Lon values are not being copied over for cloning of Inet User Address books.

Workaround: Run an Internet User Address Points bulk address update. This will run all the internet addresses through the validation process and assign updated Lat/Lon values.
  • Audit trails may not be viewable from our modern Operations App if the logged in user ID contains special characters.

Workaround: Users with IDs that contain special characters can view full audit trail data within the classic Operations App.
  • Internet User columns do not always sort as expected in the Operations App.

Workaround: Click on any cell besides the header or the column that is selected, then click on the column again to sort in the other order.
  • An error occurs in the Operations App when a user tries to email settlements to drivers that do not have an associated email address and/or settlement message format within their human resources record.

Workaround: Update the driver’s human resource record with an email address and/or settlement message format.
  • Operations Monitor – Help – View Manual results in a run-time error ’13’ type mismatch.

What's Coming 🎁

  • New customer record and shipment status event alerts
  • Automated and scheduled credit card processing for the Operations App
  • Multi-factor user authentication for Client Portal and Operations App users
